Determining which one you need depends on a few factors. First, you’ll want to consider the level of assurance you need.

A compilation, for example, will provide you with a financial statement, but it has no level of assurance. That may be all you need, but if assurance is required, you’ll want to consider a review (the next step up) or a complete audit.

Your decision can also depend on what your goal is. For example, if you’re trying to raise equity, planning to sell, or looking for extended credit or financing, a third party may require audited financial statements. That way, they are assured you are providing them with accurate financials and that you have solid processes in place.

A compilation is a financial statement providing no level of assurance—it simply presents information provided by management (inquiry and analytical procedures are not performed).

A compilation is often prepared for private businesses that do not require a high level of assurance.

If an audit is not required for your business, we can provide a review of your financial statements with lower assurance than what you would get with a full audit.

The extent of investigation involved in a review is significantly less than that of an audit. For example, third-party confirmations and verifications are not performed.

Typically, reviews are prepared for businesses that have bank loans or outside investors requiring this service.
